The Romanian President Traian Basescu revealed a note in which PM Calin Popescu Tariceanu asked him to interfere with justice in the case against oil mogul Dinu Patriciu.
PM Tariceanu receiveda political blow by Basescu: the latter produced the little note sent to him by Tariceanu asking him to interfere with justice in the case against oil mogul Dinu Patriciu, Rompetrol’s owner.
Basescu showed irrefutable proof: he gave the media a look at the little note bearing Tariceanu’s signature and the Government’s seal on it. Among other things, the note read an incriminating statement : " If you have a chance , will you please speak at the Prosecutor’s Office about the issue?".
Tariceanu announced last Friday that the note is “an invention”, denying the existence of such note “ How could I ask the President a personal favor?”.
He probably hoped the note was destroyed. Now his political career may be at risk, as this is the second time he interferes with the Romanian judiciary.
At a certain point, he asked former attorney general Ilie Botos to interfere with the same file. Due to the scandal Botos resigned but Taiceanu walked out of the affair only with political bruises.
At the moment Tariceanu should resign by any European norms. He is a compromised politician leading his party into scandal.
