Constitution Court Establishes Regulations On Referendum

The new referendum stipulations saying that the minimum presence of voters is not mandatory and that Basescu can be dismissed with 50%+1 of the votes will apply on May 19.

The referendum on May 19 will  use regulations that were modified with only two months prior to the event itself.

Thus, Basescu’s mandate no longer depends on voting presence, but on the number of people who say “yes” or “no” to the subject of the President’s dismissal .

Constitution Court judges motivated their decision by saying that the effects of the Law  modified by PSD, PNL, PRM, PC and  UDMR  do not breach  the principle of retro-activity because the normative act was enacted the  Parliament before suspending the President.
