Romanian Judiciary, Tainted With Injustice

Romanian judiciary is tainted with injustice, although Romania joined the European Union on grounds of justice reform and eradication of corruption.

EVZ shows a shocking story about a woman sentenced to one year of prison for stealing a bag full of potatoes and couldn’t serve because she was pregnant.   Irina Lungu, a 32 year old woman from  Bistrita-Nasaud County managed to gain a suspended jail sentence  until she gave birth to her child. However, since 1997, when that happened, the woman got pregnant six times to avoid prison.

She asked clemency from three Presidents , Emil Constantinescu, Ion Iliescu and the current president Traian Basescu. None of them seemed impressed with her case.

While the woman dreads her future birth, because she would be obligated to serve time in prison, there are many figures associated with high ranking officials who got away with various crimes under dubious conditions.

Some years ago, Carmen Paunescu, wife of PSD senator Adrian Paunescu got away after murdering three people in a car accident in which she was guilty.

Another case involved a former secret service officer who killed five people in a car crash got away. The Court sentenced him to three years suspended jail sentence.

There are numerous cases like the above mentioned, depicting a wicked Romanian judiciary pretending  to be European-alike.
