Petrom transforms gas into energy

This is the first company which built from zero a power plant after 1989.

Petrom announced yesterday its entering on the electric energy producers market by building a gas powered power plant; it will be built on a field belonging to Petrobrazi Refinery, and the value of the project is of 500 million euros.

The construction of the 860MW plant will begin in 2008 and by 2010 it will start to produce electricity.

The advantages of this initiative are huge for the consumers because it would be the first investment which would bring new technology in the energetic system. In this case, the production of energy would take half of the actual gas quantity.

The old installations are producing energy at 60-80 euros for a MW/hour, and the new power plant would have a cost of 40 euros for the same energy. Petrom will have a 15% profit at 40 euros for a MW, because the competition is inefficient and the costs are high on the market.
