A rumor circulating on the internet made Romanians worry over a nuclear accident.
„This is not a joke: the second reactor at the nuclear plant in Chechenya, after the first one exploded last week”, a message spread on the internet read yesterday.
Another one spoke of a accident at an atomic plant in NIcolaev, Odessa. The scenario differed from message to message including atomic plants in Cernavoda (Romania) and even the infamous Chernobyl.
Everything proved to be a hoax as representatives with the Romanian Committee on the Control of Nuclear Activities sent a press release yesterday saying no nuclear accident occurred in Chernobyl.
“The information has no real support. Romania is part of international conventions on such events and we would have been announced”, said Valica Gorea, president of the Romanian Nuclear Agency.
