Bill Gates, the founder of the largest software producer of the world, MIcrosoft company, will retire from its president position at the end of the week, on June 27, according to AFP.
He will be replaced by Steve Ballmer, who currently owns the position of executive director of the company. Bill Gates, one of the legendary figures from the technology field, is leaving Microsoft's helm after 33 years in charge of the company. Gates will not completely separate from the software giant's "kitchen", and he will remain the president of the Board of Administration.
Microsoft's founder announced a year ago that he wants to dedicate himslf to the humanitarian foundation he established together with his wife - Bill&Melinda Gates Foundation.
Bill Gates's retirement comes in a delicate moment for Microsoft, who's bussines model -software sales - is endangered. On the market have appeared rival organizations which are offering free and quality software, as an alternative to Microsoft's offer, which requires a license payment.
Examples are the operating system for mobile phones Android, which is going to be launched by Google and announces itself as a big rival for Windows Mobile, or the browser Firefox from Mozilla, which gains more market share from Microsoft's Internet Explorer every day. More, there is a series o free softwares, that come as an alternative to another important product for Microsoft, the Office suite.
Microsoft couldn't buy Yahoo!, number two on the online services market, and it must find new ways of developing in section which has great potential.
