Danube Delta Tourism, Threatened By Draught

Danube Delta Tourism, Threatened By Draught

Tour operators in the Danube Delta say that due to the lower water level, this summer season is almost compromised.

One of the main causes is the fact that after last summer’s flash floods and this year’s draught will prevent the access of cruise ships.

The most damaged areas are the Magearu Channel , connecting  Letea with  Crisan and various other internal channels within  Danube  Delta.

Financial losses are hard to estimate by tour operators.

“We pay an entry tax for the Delta, and since we have no access, it is hard to believe the tourists will come to the Delta only to see the river”, said Virgil Munteanu, president of  „Delta Turism” Association.
