Antena 1 – RCS&RDS consortium has purchased the broadcast rights of the Liga 1 soccer matches for the next three years, at a staggering price of 102 million euros.

102 million euros in just 8 minutes. That’s how much the Professional Soccer League (LPF) got after an auction that started at 12:14 PM and ended at 12:22 PM.

The amount of money, which was offered for the three years (85 million euros without VAT), is the highest bid in the history of Romanian soccer. The consortium offered four times more money than LPF received in the past editions.

The partnership with RCS&RDS cable operator made the Antena 1 TV station the main soccer “provider” in the local media market. The station owned by the Voiculescu family already has the broadcasting rights of the National team’s games and for the Romanian Cup matches.
