General Motors calls for testings almost a million cars

The U.S. giant General Motors announced, a few days ago, that it will recall for testings over 944,000 cars that have problems with the windscreen washer.

A small error discovered to this system could lead to fire in the vehicles. Nearly 850,000 of these cars are SUVs, vans or cars sold in the United States. The remaining approximately 100,000 are running on the streets of Canada, Mexico or the Middle East, according to AP. The models affected by this breakdown are some of the newest launched by General Motors on the U.S. market.

According to a list provided by the company, the cars under risk are the Buick Enclave models produced in 2008, Buick Lucerne 2006 - 2008, Cadillac DTS 2006-2008, 2007-2008 Cadillac Escalade, Cadillac Escalade ESV 2007 - 2008, Cadillac Escalade EXT 2007-2008, 2007-2008 Chevrolet Avalanche, Silverado, Suburban and Tahoe, GMC Acadia 2007-2008, Sierra, Yukon and Yukon XL, Hummer H2 2006 - 2008 Saturn Outlook and 2007 to 2008. Reported incidents

The owners of these cars might face a series of issues: if the windscreen washer will overheat, it may cause a short circuit, smoke and may even lead to the outbreak of a small fire. The spokesperson of General Motors, Carolyn Markey, said that so far have been recorded nine such incidents, which have not resulted in casualties. The company dealers will test and resolve defects free of charge, if the vehicles are recalled.

General Motors is not at the first troubles of this kind. In February of last year, the U.S. authority which manages traffic safety has opened an investigation on the safety of American models Yukon and Tahoe, starting from a series of problems detected in the engine of these cars. In June 2007, the investigation expanded to 2.7 million SUVs and vans produced by General Motors. At that time were reported 41 incidents in which the engine of the cars was set on fire.
