Second-hand cars, in the disgrace of Eastern-Europeans

Aproximately 56% of the Romanians and 50% of the Hungarians want to buy a new car, instead of a second-hand one, shows a study made in the EU members from Central and Eastern Europe and presesnted by AFP.

On the other hand, 66% of the Polish and 61% of the Czechs questionedsaid that they would rather buy a second-hand car.

Studies show that, in Central and Eastern Europe, people buy more and more new cars. In the first trimester of 2008, in the former communist countries the number of new car registrations grew with 14%, compared to the same period of 2007. The main reasons behind the East-Europeans fear of second-hand vehicles are: high consumption and higher running costs, writes AFP. This, on the background of the increasing prices for oil and of the dropping consumers confidence in their purchasing power, caused by the fear generated by the global financial crisis.

The situation is difficult for second-hand car dealers. AAA Auto, the region's largest second-hand dealer, recorded last year heavy losses.
