Romanians pay over 300 taxes

After reading over 5.300 laws, the journalists of Capital magazine counted a number of over 300 taxes that companies and Romanian citizens must pay to the state.

Among these, we can find the absurd examples of taxes for owning a horse, or the tax for a record file. “What exactly is the use of these taxes, is a hard thing to establish, giving the fact that over 80 percent of tax incomes are coming from the Value Added Tax, salary contributions and taxes over profit”, conclude the journalists of Capital magazine.

Over-taxation is one of the reasons for which Romania is seen as one of the most bureaucratic countries in Europe. The authorities have some favourite taxes, that’s for sure.

And most of them refer to properties, such as taxes for: owning a house, terrain, car, boat or scooter. Even the backyard fountain is taxable and local authorities ask for a price in order to allow drilling.
