The Romanian economy is not overheating, and this is proved by the fact that sensible indexes like unemployment and inflation are not leading towards such a risk, said , yesterday, in a press conference, Vergil Voineagu, president of the National Statistics Institute (INS).
The head of Statistics statement comes after, a day before, the vice governor of the National Bank, Eugen Dijmanescu, warned about a slight overheating of the economy, in the context of a 8.2% raise of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) in the first trimester of 2008 compared to the first three months of the previous year, It's the largest economical growth on the first trimester since 2000.
"An automobile can't be associated only with the engine. A Trabant is heating at 120 kilometers per hour, and a Mercedes heats up at 30 km/hour. This doesn't mean that the Trabant is better than the Mercedes. It's a real raising evolution of the Romanian economy, not an overheating", said Voineagu. The over expectations economical growth surprised even the INS experts who made repeated GDP calculations, to be sure they are not mistaking.
The GDP for the first trimester reached 86.7 billions lei, being maintained mostly by services, followed by constructions, industry and net taxes on products. Regarding the direct foreign investments, these are representing 87% from the economical sector and only 13% of the bankings, according to the datas released by INS.
