Florian Bichir: "Without political support, an independent in charge of the Capital remains a fairy tale. Or a political suicidal."
The first who launched himself as independent was Cozmin Gusa. Aware that his party PIN doesn't have the necessary authority, the young politician choosed to candidate as independent for mayor of the Capital.
More, it is said that Gusa laid his hand on a study made with big money by some super-brains beyond the Ocean. This analysis proved that an independent has greater chances of winning, because the inhabitants of Bucharest are fed up with political parties. Anti-PSD and unforeseeable voters, the people of Bucharest would perceive that any candidate they would sustain, no matter how professionals, hard working and honest he is, will become a prisoner of the party that supported him. Every party has its own occult financial networks, like spider webs. Once elected, the man of the party will know or will be forced to return the favor... Gusa saw the opportunity and used it.
The second man who is playing the independent card is doctor Sorin Oprescu. I am convinced that he wasn't nominated as the official PSD candidate. Unofficially, the surgeon is supported by the party, like the "independent" Vanghelie was in the old days. The best part is that in public he is separating himself from the mistakes made by PSD and Ion Iliescu. The Bucharest inhabitants still feel on their backs the flowers planted by the miners called by "el lidero maxim". Thrown in the electoral whirlpool, Oprescu copied Traian Basescu's speech. He is anti system, he disturbs all the gangs, he is alone against everyone. Until now, this type of campaign paid off. Adding the fact that the attempt for his candidate ship annulment fitted him like a glove. He victimized himself, and Romanians, so sensible at soap operas and scenarios, liked him.
The other candidates are following a classical campaign, in which they are using the brand of their parties. More, Vasile Blaga said that doctor Oprescu fakes his independence and that nowhere in Europe, a City hall is managed by an independent. PDL candidates continue to rely on their party's and, obviously, on president's Traian Basescu popularity. More, they recruited Liviu Negoita for this battle, because otherwise we can't explain a line like "One Negoita for sector 2". I don't know if it's enough to win the sectors and Bucharest, and Vasile Blaga, a genuine Transylvanian, is a strong candidate, but who warms up more slowly.
It's certain that the return of the independents or the reinventing of independent candidates is a signal that political parties are losing popularity, that the "roguery system" seems now identified by voters as a party privilege. The way of decided independents, without mother, without father is getting popular for a part of the voters. What it is not understood by many is that an independent party will not be able to command respect in front of the General Council, in which votes - like in the parliament - are shared by parties. Without political support, an independent in charge of the Capital remains a fairy tale. Or a political suicidal that will be satisfied to enter the history books just because he set his bottom on the chair of Pache Protopopescu, Dem I. Dobrescu or Barbu Ştefănescu-Delavrancea.
