Auchan: we have profits of only 0.2%

The sale of a product brings an Auchan shop a profit of 0.2%, said yesterday Regis Moguel, the general manager of the French chain.

He made public for the first time, during a debate organized by "Ziarul Financiar" on the Romanian retail sector, the structure of the price for a product on a shop shelf. The retailers are accused by the producers of having earnings up to 60%.

According to informations presented by Moguel, 72% of the price for a liter of milk is the price payed to the supplier. The rest is represented by various expenses - energy, wages, maintenance - what makes the shop's profit to drop at 0.2%.

"If you have such a small profit, why aren't you considering a change of bussines?", said some producers present at the debate, putting the figures released by the retailer under doubt.
