The priest who “serves God” on hi5

Father Daniel Nitu is passionate about the Internet and feeds the gossips in his village by making friends on hi5, a social network site.

He is a priest at one of the churches in Dolj County and spends his spare time navigating the Internet and making virtual friendships. The pictures that father Nitu has uploaded on his account show us a priest who is in touch with the material world, a man who likes beer, beautiful girls and where the Orthodox Church seems to be experiencing an ascending trend of renewal.

„28 years old, 1.72 m, 75 kg, blue eyes, black hair...“, that’s how father Nitu’s profile description begins. Furthermore, he confesses that he likes watching „japannese movies“ and that DJ Bobo is his favorite artist.

The young priest has uploaded some 60 photos on his profile and in some of them he is having a beer or sitting half naked at a barbecue. Off course, pictures of him wearing priesthood clothes are also present.

Messages for young ladies Father Nitu is not afraid to leave some manful comments. For example, Andreea, a young girl aged 17 has a uploaded a photo of herself lying like “a lazy cat” on the bed. Her photo description says that being lazy is a hard thing to do and father Daniel Nitu leaves the following comment: “Does it hurt, or does it (laziness) do something else?”

Sweet is 19 years old. “You’re so sexy!”, father Nitu tells her. Nelly, a blonde sex bomb in Iasi is being  is being admired and at the same time mocked:"You are so beautiful, so sexy and elegant, just what I'm looking for in a woman... if you only were smart as well".

When confronted about his hi5 account, pictures and messages, the priest looked surprised.

Father Nitu says that the internet is a very old passion of his. “I joined hi5 to meet people and socialize, not to hook up with girls. I talk to my former faculty colleagues. I have nothing to hide and that’s why I posted pictures of my family, whom I love.

I don’t think the Bishopric has something against this. I believe the entire Romanian Orthodox Church uses the Internet”, Nitu told us.
