Angela Gheorghiu and famous Italian director Franco Zeffirelli met this weekend in Rome.
Last month, metropolitan public applauded the Romanian soprano for the first time as Violeta on the scene of the Metropolitan Opera in New York in the recent production staged by the famous Italian director (that had the premiere last year).
Zeffirelli never got to see his own staging in New York, but he met Angela Gheorghiu on Friday evening at the first performance in Rome.
A few months ago, Franco Zeffirelli announced he would stage a different version of Traviata “this time filled with more erotic scenes compared to the previous version with Placido Domingo and Teresa Stratas”.
The production also stars Angel Gheorghiu’s husband, tenor Roberto Alagna.
