An icon painter in Lugoj made a painting with Biblical allusions, depicting the current political dispute.
Nitu Roman painted Gigi Becali, a rising politician and owner of a soccer club, as sitting on a throne with a cross in his hand while President Basescu is an archangel who punishes PM Calin Popescu Tariceanu who is dressed all in red(an allusion on his ties with PSD a party most Romanians label as “Communist”). Nitu Roman says that the painting only represents the situation as he sees it: he thinks current President Traian Basescu would lose the elections in favor of Gigi Becali.
“The scene represents Becali as the future leader of all Romanians. Through this painting I foresaw the President’s downfall”, the painter said.
