Ministry of the Economy, Varujan Vosganian, considers that the lack of cheap energy from Hidroelectrica must be supplemented with very expensive energy from Termoelectrica.
The severe drought in 2007, the biggest in the last century, pushes the authorities to extreme measures to combat the hydro deficit.
Varujan Vosganian gave his consent that in July, the lack of hydro energy be covered by thermo, the most expensive energy. So, the acute need for electricity, both for population, and for bilateral contracts, is now supplemented by Temoelectrica.
The costs for a mega watt produced in a thermo plant is double compared to one produced in a hydro plant. The consequences of this measures will be the increase of the Termoelectrica debt, already gone to 1,2 billion euros, and also the increase of the price of the energy for the population.
