The ex-President declared that his accusation in the file regarding the death of four people during the miners’ attack on 13th-15th of June 1990 is nothing but a political act.
Iliescu also declared that so far no incriminating proves were presented to him by the authorities.
“I was the President. An anarchical movement had started; a destruction of state’s institutions. What was I supposed to do? Do absolutely nothing and watch the other way while this anarchy was released, which could have caused a civil war eventually? I had no Police, no instruments for action. And this tragedy took place, causing the death of some people. Must you incriminate the President who was the object of these anarchical actions? Don’t you see that it is absurd?” Iliescu thought.
Initially, in this investigation were also incriminated General Mihai Chitac – Ex-Minister of Internal Affairs, General Gheorghe Andrita – Ex-Vice Minister of Internal Affairs, Police Colonels in reserve Calin Traian Stefan, Costea Dumitru and Constantin Vasile.
As a consequence of the declarations existent in the file, the military prosecutors incriminated Ion Iliescu, and he will be called in court at the Military Prosecuting Headquarters.
