Doru D. Ilioi doesn’t have a residential status in the United States of America, although he was named bishop in Denver’s Church of God.
Ilioi, aged 31, emigrated in the United States and managed to meet with the world’s most powerful man. Even though the Romanian has no legal residence status, he dined next to George W. Bush and John McCain, the republican candidate for the US Presidency.
Doru D. Ilioi discussed the matter of immigrants who live in the U.S. for several years, pay taxes and have no residential status. Ilioi is also familiar with the governor of Arizona and two members of the American Congress.
As he arrived in Denver, Colorado, he founded a Romanian church. He also founded a Romanian community, which now consists of about 8.000 people and became the Pentecostal bishop of the “Lord’s Church”. Doru and his wife Crina are teaching their two daughters the Romanian alphabet.
During an interview with EVZ, Ilioi exposed his discussion with President Bush. He says he had always tried to bring up the situation of people who live in the US, pay their taxes, have children who go to schools and create job opportunities with their own businesses, but do not have a permanent residential status. This is why the Romanians, and sometimes, whole immigrant communities, are risk to be banished from the US.
“We also discussed religious matters, considering the fact that I am a reverend and most politicians are christians. I recall President Bush telling me about his visit in Romania. President Bush spoke about God’s sign, that he should help this country. It was raining and President Bush was worried about having to speak and hold his umbrella at the same time, but the moment he got up to have his speech, the rain had stopped and a magnificent rainbow covered the sky. The President saw that event as a sign that God loves the Romanian people and that he must do something this country”, Ilioi said.
