The Americans from Bechtel, the constructors of the Transilvania Highway, will receive until the end of the year around 210 millions euro, half of the sum being allocated after the budgetary rectification in September.
Until then, a 110 millions euro fund raise was already approved for the Transilvania Highway project, according to Stefan Sobotka, the communication director of the highways Company. The last payments towards Bechtel were made in June, when 80 millions euro were payed, representing the bills for the first three months of the year and the penalizations, according to Dorin Debucean, the general director of the Company of Highways and National Roads from Romania (CNADNR).
Overdue sums of 50 millions euro
"We are behind with some bills from April, May and June, which raise up to 40-50 millions euro", said Debucean. At the budgetary rectification from a month ago, Bechtel received approximately 67 millions euro, another 30 millions being allocated for expropriations. CNADNR payed the American constructor 140 millions euro at the beginning of the year, representing a 30% advance from the total value of the constructions scheduled for this year. Until November 15, Bechtel must deliver 25 kilometers of highway between Luna and Turda, section which will function as belt road of Cluj, according to Debucean. The highways company is waiting for, until September 1, the US firm to announce what funds it requires in 2009 in order to continue the constructions.
