Audi wants a factory in Romania

Audi, Volkswagen's luxury division, could produce cars in Romania.

After two other companies from the auto industry, Mitsubishi and Daimler, announced their intention to open factories in Romania, Audi is also looking for possible places for a factory.

"Together with Mercedes and Mitsubishi, Audi, the luxury division of the German group Volkswagen, wants to produce cars in Romania. Each company is studying at the present time more locations and are trying to find a suitable position", said Ovidiu Silaghi, minister for IMM, Commerce and Tourism, quoted by Mediafax. Audi Romania representatives denied the information, but they say that nothing is certain and that a factory could be built here, but not in the near future.

Silaghi said that Daimler, the Mercedes producer, orientated itself at first towards Oradea, but eventually they observed that the water line there is very thin and this would make impossible the production activity. Another place aimed by Daimler could be Timisoara.

"Audi is just at the first step and I can't give you details about the areas of interest. I know that Mitsubishi is searching a property in Romania, for its car production", added Silaghi. In the first phase, sources from the auto market launched the idea that the Japanese car producer Mitsubishi could choose Campulung, informations denied by Prime Minister Calin Popescu Tariceanu.
