The academician made the deal when he was chef of Geriatric and Gerontology Departemnt within the iInstitute led by Ana Aslan.
The first contacts were established in 1974 and aimed at transmitting information related to the foreign patients admitted to the famous. Balaceanu-Stolnici said that at first he only reported verbally and then he was asked to do it in writing and was assigned a code name “Laurentiu”.
July last year, his name appeared on a list of employees and collaborators of the Institute who never collaborated with Securitate, a list that was drafted upon the statements of each person. However, the academician admitted yesterday to have been informant.
Representatives of CNSAS the Romanian communism watchdog said that currently the institution is not undergoing any investigations in Balaceanu Stonici’s case.
