Supported by the popular vote on the referendum, President Traian Basescu has taken the offensive against the MPs who voted on his suspension.
At the first meeting with the MPs since the referendum’s results, Basescu did not come up with a new Government formula. He asked for the Government’s resignation in what he called as “the honest solution” considering the population’s vote against them.
Basescu also said that following the Government’s resignation, early elections should follow. Arguing that six million Romanians voted for him at the referendum, Basescu said the current Parliament committed an illegal act when it suspended him.
To prove the fact that the parties are afraid of the confrontation with the electorate, Basescu waved the early elections version.
