Romanian President, Accused of Racial Discrimination

Romanian President, Accused of Racial Discrimination

The short way from the winning President to the racist President.

President Traian Basescu sent his apologies yesterday to the Roma Ethnic journalist  Andreea Pana, from  Antena 1 TV whom he called “gipsy trash” after calling her a “pussy”.

Basescu was angry with the woman on the day of the referendum, when he was shopping and she tried to get a statement from him. The President snatched her mobile (the one she was recording the interview with) and later on, it was reveled that the mobile recorded Basescu using the word  “gipsy trash”  to describe her.

The incident  irritated the Roma ethnics community and the civic society representatives.

The National Discriminations Committee was notified of the President’s act and will hear both  Traian Basescu and the journalist in the matter, today.
