Forced eviction for Lido Hotel owners

The assigned inheritors of Constantin Monteoru Angelescu and an officer of the court have forced their way in the back entrance of Lido Hotel, a property which had been retro ceded by a decision of the High Court of Cassation and Justice (ICCJ).

Yesterday’s action was taken after the owners have repeatedly refused to give the properties that were confiscated by the communist regime back to the rightful owners.

Paunescu brothers, two Romanian businessmen were the owners of the hotel until now. The inheritors have won their rights after a seven years trial against the two businessmen.

George Constantin Paunescu has locked down the gates to the property and used his bodyguards in order to keep away the rightful owners and the Court’s officer.

Paunescu had claimed rights to a new trial, as the properties have been recently taken into custody by another firm.

After hours of arguments the police, the rightful owners and the lawyers have managed to enter the building. The Lido Hotel is valued at about 50 million euros and it is possible that the hotel’s stock owners might ask for state compensations of over 34 million euros.
