During the 848 days while he stayed in power, President Traian Basescu launched ambitious programs, supported by the population and an intellectual elite.
However, many of the project are left unfinished because the chief of state lost his partners : the Government and the Parliament.
Basescu was Romania’s first President who tried to:
> put Romania away from Moscow and get it more close to Washington; > fight against Romania’s big corrupt characters; > condemn Communism; > establish a reform of the political class.
He managed to reorient Romania’s foreign and security policy towards the West.
He also encouraged the judiciary to investigate certain political leaders even if they were members of the Government . However, the early elections project turned the political class against him.
