Romanian Prime-Minister: "Anti-corruption is not accomplished with Supermen"

Romanian Prime Minister Calin Popescu Tariceanu acused the National Anti-Corruption Department (DNA) of not supporting the efforts of the Anti-Fraud Department(DLAF).

Furthermore, Tariceanu acused president Traian Basescu of trying to win the fight against corruption through image victiories.

"The fight against corruption is not led by TV Supermen or other providential characthers, but with the help of responsable, honest, hard working people, who, above all do their job.(...) The romanian people wishes for a justice in which the politics would be silent", Tariceanu said yesterday, when DLAF's last year's activity report was issued.

In the past two years, DLAF has sent DNA a number of 121 cases of possible frauds concerning european funds. Only 53 of these have been solved by the prosecutors.

The report shown yesterday says that DLAF had verified 103 contracts concerning the use of European Union funds, from which 56 had clues of fraud.

Thus, 200 million euros worth of projects funded by the European Union have been checked.
