The Constitutional Court has blocked the investigation of Iliescu who otherwise would be facing charges that could put him behind bars for the rest of his life.
The military prosecutors and judges are not allowed to put on roll files in which civilians are on trial, as this is forbidden by the Constitution.
According to the specialists, the decision has disastrous consequences: all the enquiries of this type (both militaries and civilians involved) are blocked and cannot be continued until they are put into the civilian prosecutors’ hands.
In this situation we find two of the most important dossiers ever instrumented by the military magistrates: The Revolution Dossier and The Miners’ of 13-15 of June 1990 in both of them the ex president Ion Iliescu was accused of crimes against peace and humanity.
