Strategy. The Magyar company MOL tries to avoid the OMV take over by using the name of Russian giant Gazprom.
MOL's general director, Zsolt Hernadi met today with Alexei Miller, the Gazprom president, to discuss the Russian company's role in turning Hungary into a major power center in Europe, according to portfolio.hu
The meetenig suceeds an anouncement made last week by OMV's chairman, Wolfgang Ruttenstorfer. The OMW boss stated that Austrian group wants to become Gazprom's main challenger in Sothern and Eastern Europe by taking over MOL. Gazprom and MOL are bulding gas storage utilities in Hungary and are part in the South Stream gas main project. Russia supplies over 80% of Hungary's gas.
