Russian Billionaires Aim At Romania's Energy Market

Russian magnate  Igor Ziuzin announced his intentions toward the Romanian energy market .

Ziuzin may purchase a thermal-plant, invest EUR200 million and keep half of its employees.

 Once Romania joined the European Union, Moscow magnates became very interested in extending business in Romania. Most targeted area is the energy business.

Thus , Ziuzin, the Russain billionaire already with business in Romania intends to purchase important facilities on the Romanian energy market  : the thermal plant in Giurgiu and Termoelectrica SA Plant, that is currently owned by the County Council. If the purchase is completed, they could become a valuable source of energy for the production lines owned by Russian colossus  Mechel in Romania(whose owner in Ziuzin).

The Russian oligarch, has the main advantage in this deal : he is one of the main providers of coal, a primary resource used by  Romania’s energy poants, If he purchases the plants which he intends to, he will have total monopoly: he produces energy, he provides means to produce it and he will also be the one selling it.

Ziuzin’s intentions were made public through a statement made for EVZ by his representative in Romania, Boris Golovin. Golovin, former Soviet military spy is also the broker for another Russian oligarch, Oleg Deripaska, and the Russian  state-owned  Ziomar company , involved in a deal to compensate Russai’s debt towards Romania.

Mechel is a giant in the filed of coal and steel. In Romania, the company took over  Combinatul de Oteluri Speciale (steelmaker) and  Sarmei Campia Turzii plant(steel wire maker).
