Romania’s suspended President Traian Basescu said yesterday that he would withdraw from politics if he loses the referendum on May 19.
The statement was made at the meeting Basescu had with representatives of foreign press in Romania.
“ If I lose I will return home. The referendum will represent a key moment in which Romanians will choose which Romania they want to live in”, Basescu told the press .
The President said he would not run again for Presidnecy if he is nominated. “Why should I show up?”, he said. Basescu , however, pointed out he is convinced the referendum on May 19 would be in his favor and that many politicians will be surprised at the Romanian people’s reaction.
Constitution Court will decide today on how many votes are necessary to dismiss Romania’s suspended President, Traian Basescu.
