Romania’s suspended President Traian Basescu gave the start for the electoral campaign for the referendum, preparing his supporters for the fight with the “Beast”.
More than 7,000 citizens auto-suspended themselves yesterday evening in Constitution Square(Piata Constitutiei) as a sign of protest towards the Parliament’s gesture .
The pro- Basescu protest gathered yesterday representatives of the Democratic Party or PD from various national branches, public servants from Bucharest’s Mayoralties, former minister and supporters.
The crowd was entertained by folk and hip-hop artists and around 19.00, when most TV stations broadcast newsreels, Basescu showed up with former justice minister Monica Macovei.
Basescu’s speech centered on calling people to vote on the referendum in May and asking his supporters not to trust the media attacks on him.
The President was supported by common people from the cities near Bucharest but also various public characters in Romania like model Valentina Pelinel and cristian Boureanu within LIvberal Democratic party or PLD.
