The buying power at 40% of the EU average

The buying power of the Romanians is situated at 40% from the European Union average , and in 2013 will surpass 50%, according to the estimations released by the Ministry of Finances.

According to the convergence criterion, which is measured in GDP per capita, and it's value is equivalent with the buying power, Romania reaches 41% of the average level from the EU, said Varujan Vosganian, the minister of economy and finances, yesterday, in a press conference.

Compared to a medium gross domestic product per capita in the EU of 25.000 euro, the value of this index in Romania raises up to 10.000 euro, said the official. "If the actual fiscal policy will be used for the economic development, Romania will surpass, in 2013, 50% of the EU average for GDP per capita, equivalent to the buying power", said Vosganian.

In the first trimester of 2008, the number of employees raised with approximately 105.000, while the number of unemployed dropped with 60.000. The economic growth recorded in the first trimester was of 7.5%, and th authorities are thinking about raising with one percent  the prognosis for 2008 of 6.5%, if we will have a good agricultural year.
