Senate To Vote On ANI Agency Law Draft

The  Romanian Senate will vote today on the Law on founding eth National Integrity Agency or ANI and then it would be enacted by eth interim President Nicolae Vacaroiu.

After more than one year of Parliamentary debates, the ANI law does not resemble the draft law proposed by former justice minister Monica Macovei. The draft was visible…thinned much to the satisfaction of the MPs.

The first modification was carried out by  House Deputies who decided to eliminate ANI’s authorization to control the wealth of dignitaries stipulating only the possibility to verify the estate declaration.

Also Senators decided to appoint the leadership of the Agency contrary to the original stipulation saying that the Agency should be lead by a president and vice-president appointed by the President of Romania after consulting with a Council  formed of party and Government representatives and judges from the Supreme Court.
