Romanian Music Legend Dies 61

Romanian music legend, “maestro” Gil Dobrica died yesterday after a two weeks of suffering.

Singer Gil Dobrica died yesterday at noon  in his natal city ,  la Craiova,  and would be buried on Thursday.

Gil Dobrica, who turned 61 suffered from various ails  including cirrhosis and  double pneumonia. His condition worsened rapidly  lately.  In the last two weeks he could barely step out of bed. The gout immobilized him and the cirrhosis hasten his end.

The “maestro” spent his last months  of life in Craiova in the house of his sister. Relatives say he died peacefully and that the night before his death he asked  to listen for a CD with Ray Charles.

A legend of Romanian music, Gil Dobrica started singing in his teenage years. He performed rock, rythm&blues or soul , most of the time doing it freely as he was also working for a living at the same time.

An exceptional moment for his career was attending the music Conservatory in Bucharest  in the 70s and being hired by the Atlantic bar within Athenee Palace one of the most famous hotels in Bucharest.

After this, he became one of the  most famous Romanian singers among foreigners in Romania(diplomats, businessmen etc).

In 1990, gout and cirrhoses  overcame him and he retired from his musical career
