Romanian MPs May Lower Car Registration Tax

The registration tax for a new car may be more expensive than actually buying a used car.

The level of the tax for the first registration applicable to used cars imported from the European Union may be lowered in the following period if the  Parliament accepts a series of modifications proposed by the Government.

Economy Minister Varujan Vosganian proposed yesterday that the tax should be lowered as the car is  older so that Romanians should not pay the state more than whet the car is actually worth.

Vosganian said that the measure may cause the European Committee to cool down after sending a warning to Romania on not observing EU legislation  in the field.
