1,000 Romanian MDs willleave to work outside Romania. Reasons: low salaries, lack of medical equipments and the impossibility of building a career.
Since the beginning of this year, 1,000 young MDS undergone procedures with the Health Ministry for leaving the country to work abroad, according to Vasile Astarastoae, secretary general of Romania’s MD’s College or CMR.
The main reasons for their want to go abroad are low salaries and lack of hospital facilities, corruption and incompetence in the Romanian health care system .
“Anesthesiologists and cardiac surgeons are the most sought specialists ”, said Mircea Cinteza, president of CMR.
The most preferred destinations are the EU states, Australia, New Zeeland and the United States, according to a local opinion poll carried out in Iasi County, northeastern on a batch of 100 MDs.
Most doctors receive between EUR15-300 monthly while in the United Kingdom, for example, they get 5,000 pounds per month plus a special hire bonus.
