Tudor Chiuariu was appointed for replacing justice minister, Monica Macovei. He is a man promoted by Liberal Relu Fenechiu whose name is associated with many shady dealings
PM Calin Popescu-Tariceanu announced yesterday the new structure of the Government formed exclusively of PNL-UDMR.
Amongst the new ministers there are many Liberals connected with oil mogul Dinu Patriciu, indicted for various economic crimes and also many who have serious image problems.
The most brutal change is represented by the new justice minister: instead of the independent Monica Macovei (proposed by PD) liberal Tudor Chiuariu was appointed, a person supported by the “Iasi Group”.
The possible new justice minister was “thrown” onto the political stage by the controversial MP Relu Fenechiu, leader of PNL Iasi.
His name is associated with many shady deals many of them in the field of real estate in Romania’s Moldavian area, especially in Iasi. He is also involved in a bribery scandal resulting in the arrest of former Liberal prefect Radu Prisacariu, Fenechiu’s deputy.
PD reacted harshly as its ministers were sacked by Tariceanu . They labeled him as a “fake PM of an illegitimate Government”.
Romania’s President also reacted by saying that the new Government only has 22 mandates within the Parliament therefore it “does not respect the will of the electorate”.
However, the new formula will be supported by opposition party PSD with 33% of the Parliament votes.
