Ion Iliescu is risking life in prison

The ex president risks to spend the rest of his life in prison if found guilty of instigation to murder in the miners dossier from 1990.

According to the Penal Code, the instigator is sanctioned with the same punishment as the material author of the crime, which means 15-25 years or life detention.

The new accusation brought to Iliescu by the military prosecutors is bound to he incidents which took place close to the Ministry of the Internal Affairs on the 13th of June 1990 when 4 persons were killed after the policemen used the armament against the civilians.

Admiral “Cico” Dumitrescu was questioned again by the military prosecutors in the mining dossier as an actively guilty person. He said that he had no involvement in the events because, although he was an active member of the MI, he only had attributions related to the press. The admiral in reserve was wane of the close persons to Iliescu; he occupied the state counselor job during Iliescu’s second mandate.
