EVZ EDITORIAL: Ludovic Orban's tortures

Ioana Lupea: "Orban ended up without the organization, and without followers. He leaves the large political battlefield without heroism."

Ludovic Orban was annihilated like a dangerous virus. In only a week, he was left without an organization, and without the governmental clientele. Orban was finished in the party before the liberal leaders decision of the Bucharest organization's management dissolving. The arbitrary sacking of the prefect Catalin Deaconescu had an only purpose, to send a warning to Ludovic Orban's men from the local and central administration. Translated, the message sounds different: who is with Orban, will have Deaconescu's fate.Ludovic Orban was stripped from his power of influence in PNL not only because he flirted with

PDL, but because he is unpredictable. Neither Calin Popescu-Tariceanu or Dinu Patriciu - represented at the PNL top by the patriarch of the Prahova congregation, Mircea Ionescu Quintus - don't need in the team a player with personality, who's force grows stronger when heading towards the general elections. Orban could hijack the liberals plans in an undesired direction because, unlike other "minorities"from PNL, like Norica Nicolai or Crin Antonescu, he had the tools to build a dissident division. As transportation minister, Orban benefits from jobs and funds, all he needed to build up a devoted clientale. This was the reason why Orban decided to takeover the Bucharest organization fromTariceanu, Eugen Nicolaescu and Marian Petrache, from the famous couple "Bittner and Petrache". Between the leadership of PNL Bucharest and the term as minister if transports he choosed the executive. After Catalin Deaconescu sacking, it wouldn't be of any use for him also.

The key moment of Orban's fall was the resignation of the Bucharest prefect. Neither Catalin Deaconescu, nor Ludovic Orban hadn't understand the stake of the action planed probably by the evil genius Bogdan Olteanu, who's purpose was to frighten the transportation minister's followers. The sacking of Catalin Deaconescu for failures in the organization of the elections, in the conditions in which the liberal prefect from Ilfov keeps his position, is obviously arbitrary. And it was thought this way, for Orban's loyals to understand that they don't need real or solid reasons to get rid of them. Instead of supporting his prefect and send the platoon a message of trust, Ludovic Orban rushed to save his own skin. He felt in his own trap, after the January accident.

Ludovic Orban confirms his political script: every time he gets close to power, he is forced to start over again. For the PNL system, Orban is an anomaly, a risk that should eliminated just in case. Ludovic Orban leaves the great political battlefields without heroism, and PNL resettles the internal consensus. Without Orban, who would of chosen the opposition instead of an alliance with PSD, no surprise is possible anymore. The liberals are heading to a government together with Mircea Geoana and Ion Iliescu.
