Electricity in shares in the North

Active companies in northwestern Romania could find themselves shortly with interruption of power because of low production capacity of electricity in the northern areas of the Carpathian Mountains, said, yesterday, Jean Constantinescu, chairman of the Romanian Institute for the Study and Use Sources of Energy (IRE), at a round table.

"There are already days and moments when Transelectrica has troubles in supplying the Northern country. There are situations when the Iernut power plant is bound to produce more than entitled, according to prices", mentioned the representative of IRE, for EVZ. According to Jean Constantinescu, the most important producer of electricity in the area, Central Termoelectrică Iernut, is using outdated technologies, which are consuming a lot of gas.

Investment in modern technology could reach 300-400 million euros, and a central gas could be build in a period of between six months and one year, according his estimations. Another solution could be importing electricity from Hungary. Next year, our neighbors of the west will give to service a power plant which operates on the basis of natural gas, with a capacity of 2,400 MW.
