Romania’s suspended President Traian Basescu said that after the referendum negotiating a new Parliamentary majority may be necessary.
In a meeting which lasted two hours with most of Romania’s known intellectuals, Traian Basescu confirmed that a new Parliamentary majority must be negotiated after May 19.
”Romania cannot be changed after May 19 but what starts on May 19 remains to be seen”, the President said, considering that he will win the referendum and doesn’t get dismissed by the people’s vote.
Writers Gabriel Liiceanu, Horia-Roman Patapievici Christian Mititelu and other famous Romanian intellectuals took part in the meeting
In order to solve Romania’s political crisis, Traian Basescu proposed three viable solutions . First: to change the political class by 2008-2009 through elections, the second: the political class should consider that the people’s vote sanction it and apply the early elections formula .
The third would mean to make some of the 322 Mps who voted for his suspension to become turncoats and consider what the Romanian people really want.
