Traian Basescu tried to find supporters for dismissing the PNL-UDMR Government. The most likely candidate for supporting his actions : opposition party PSD.
After consulting with most Parliamentary parties, the President decided that PSD is the most logical choice in helping him to dismiss the current Government since the Social Democratic Party or PSD is the only party within the Parliament that can initiate a censure motion against with PD against PM Calin Popescu Tariceanu.
“It was a punctual, respectful and calm discussion. Quite unexpected for us”, PSD’s deputy president, Ilie Sarbu, said.
Basescu's arguments included forming a "steady, solid and credibl Government" as an alternative to the "weak and shaky", PNL-UDMR Government.
