Success Story: A Romanian Banker In New York

Ovidiu Daminescu managed to be a successful banker in New York. He is less than 30 years old and now vice-president of New York’s branch of  Germany’s largest bank.

He studied at Harvard and it seems to have paid off. A license from Harvard usually does, however, it is not enough to have a degree if you do not work hard and get noticed.

Daminescu got involved in various projects during the University studies including tutoring children with various disabilities.

He worked for various big names in the banking industry like JP Morgan and Merryl Linch, but was fired in 2001 after the September 11 tragedy.

He did however manage to find another job.

“Success means a lot of money and luxury”, he said but added that he feels rather isolated because when “you’re a stranger it’s harder to make friends".

He would like to come back home.
