Romanian Nurse Accused Of Malpractice

An employee of "Victor Babes" hospital in Bucharest is accused of making injections with non-sterile syringes.

The nurse was accused by several mother of children admitted in the hospital. They saw how the nurse brought syringes who were not sealed  in plastic foils, therefore being compromised.

Although the risk of infection with HIV or hepatitis is high, the hospital management try to defend their employee’s actions.

An inquiry board, however, suspended the nurse unlimited and the hospital manager, Cristian Banu, said that she could be fired.

He also said that that using unsealed syringes is not within the hospital policy. The admitted children involved in the incident were taken blood samples and will be  monitored for six months .

Some colleagues tried to defend the nurse. “Many of the children have IV needles and she probably considered that she makes no mistake since infections usually are transmitted through needles, not syringes”, an MD said.
