Romania, Threatened By HIV

In the last three months, 14 new cases of HIV positives were discovered in Romania at youths aged 15-19 years old.

In Romania, the number of HIV/ AIDS cases may increase in the following ten years because of unsafe sex or sexual intercourse with multiple partners, according to specialists.

Out of the ten thousand AIDS positives, almost half are teenagers or youths , many of them infected in hospitals during 1980-1990 through transfusions with untested blood or through syringe needles

17 years ago, half of Europe’s  HIV positives were children in Romania. Now, most Romanian HIV positives are youths who started their sexual life and may be factors of spreading the virus.

According to specialists, the infection is spread by unprotected sexual intercourse in 99 percent of cases.
