President Traian Basescu provoked a chain car accident while looking at the City Hall. Yesterday, at about the same time, the leader of the main opposition party in Romania managed to do a similar deed.
While driving and staring at Bucharest’s City Hall, President Traian Basescu damaged three cars, including his own. Basescu was driving his blue Golf 5, on Regina Elisabeta.
Boulevard when suddenly a Dacia 1310 braked in front of the President’s car. Since he wasn’t paying attention, Basescu didn’t manage to hit the brakes on time and hit the Dacia, which hit a Dacia Logan.
President Basescu received a ticket, worth three penalty points in his driving license and a fee of about 30 euros. In Romania, a driver’s license is cancelled after the driver accumulates 15 penalty points.
At about the same time, Mircea Geoana, the Social Democratic Party’s leader had an accident, near Herastrau Park in the Capital. Both Geoana and Basescu were tested for alcohol, paid their fees and cooperated with the police and the media.
The analysts say that both politicians benefited from the media coverage of their deeds, which contrasted with the huge scandal that surrounded the Minister of Transports, Ludovic Orban, four months ago. Orban had hit a little girl on the pedestrian crossing and was accused of trying to cover up the whole incident.
