The research regarding the events in ’89 and ’90 are still available, said the general prosecutor, who also stated that these files are a priority.
The Constitutional Court adopted on Wednesday a decision which prevents the military prosecutors from dealing with these files in the future.
Kovesi said that he will assign a team of enquirers to deal only with these cases, so they can finish the investigations as quickly as possible. Still, the team of prosecutors will not be able to start right away; they will have to study all the documents from the last 10 years.
This operation might take months or years and all this time the investigations will stagnate. The delays could be avoided if the military prosecutors would retire from the army and transfer to the civilians, in order to be able to continue working on the files.
