One day after ending their mandate, dignitaries can have no fear of ever being prosecuted for their illegal activities.
Senators within the Human Rights’ Committee passed a Law within the Parliament forbidding National Integrity Agency or ANI to control former dignitaries’ income sources for five years after serving their term of office.
“How can you allow an Agency to come after five years after you serve your term of office to start questioning you on how you made your wealth during that time?”, UDMR Senator Gyorgy Frunda said.
Tudor Chiuariu, minister of justice said that the Agency will only check on the income sources during the mandate, but MPs were not touched by his explanation.
However, they accepted to make harsher laws on those caught with illegal income sources.
“If there is a discrepancy of EUR10,000 between the declaration of incomes from the beginning of the mandate and the end that cannot be justified the person can be prosecuted”, justice minister explained.
